An Interview with
Uwe Boll, #4

Uwe Boll Interview
english edition:
BG: 1968 Tunnel Rats
is your next movie - how
would you describe it?
Uwe Boll: It is a
bitter, brutal war movie
that shows for the first
time why the Americans
lost the Vietnam war.
BG: What was it like to
shoot the movie? The
sets look pretty good.
Boll: We built the
tunnels in the studio
under about 50 degrees
celsius, it was very
hard for the actors. The
jungle scenes we did in
Durban, right where they
shot the Leonardo
DiCaprio thriller Blood
Diamond.
BG: Is it true that
there were no scripted
dialogues, only
improvisations? If so,
how did you like that
and would you do it
again?
Boll: If the actors are
into method acting, then
it is better if they say
what they feel and don't
just learn lines. You
can do that on very
intense flicks like
1968 Tunnel Rats, Stoic
or Janjaweed.
-
1968 Tunnel Rats is a
war movie that depicts
the tunnel fights in the
Vietnam war
-
Stoic is a prison
thriller about
molestation and jail
violence
-
Janjaweed is a war drama
about a reporter that
goes to Sudan and
witnesses war crimes
BG: Your upcoming jail
thriller Stoic - will it
be more of a drama or a
thriller??
Boll: It's based on the
true case of Siegburg
and it is a drama...
very hard and
disturbing.

BG: What was it like
working with Edward
Furlong?
Boll: Furlong needed the
most time to get into
his role, but in the end
he turned out to be the
best. He
is a great actor who had
a very difficult time
with drugs and prison.
Also, all actors had to
sleep in the jail set,
therefore it wasn't
really comfortable for
them.
BG: Obama or McCain -
who'd get your vote?
Boll: Obama...
McCain is too old and in
Bush's party.
BG: What is your
favourite and least
favourite flick of the
year?
Boll: The Dark
Knight was great ...
There will be Blood was
the best movie... many
were crap...
BG: Your next movie is
going to be Schmeling
with german boxer Henry
Maske in the title role.
What can we expect?
Boll: Schmeling is going
to be a war drama with
spectacular box scenes!
- Schmeling will show
the life of Germany's
most famous boxer Max
Schmeling; former
champion boxer Henry
Maske is going to
portray him
BG: What do you do next?
Boll: I will start a new
movie called The Storm
on November 26th, a
flick about the end of
the world.
BG: Last question: in
case someone gave you a
budget of 200,000,000$
and you could chase any
videogame adaption you
wanted - which one would
it be?
Boll: World of WarCraft.
