Könnte das ein erstes Geister-Design für den Film sein:

Das Bild wurde auf der Seite von Illusion Industries gefunden, die gerade auch an The Haunted Mansion arbeiten. Und da es an das Design des "Hatbox Ghosts" erinnert, um den sich die Geschichte dieses Films dreht, wird nun spekuliert, dass man das so im Film sehen könnte. Genausogut könnte es aber auch das Werk eines Fans oder nur eines von vielen Designentwürfen sein. So oder so, mir gefällt es.

Del Toro wurde in einem Interview auf den Film angsprochen: Haunted Mansion sei nach wie vor in Arbeit und Disney wolle ihn auf jeden Fall machen. Derzeit wird an einer weiteren Drehbuchfassung geschrieben. Del Toro wird aber wohl nach wie vor nicht Regie führen, sondern nur produzieren. Der Ton des Films soll außerdem in eine gruselige Richtung gehen, die trotzdem Spaß macht, aber nicht lustig ist.

"Haunted Mansion" is very much alive and in process. Disney is very supportive and we are doing another draft of the screenplay…
Yet another draft… And they really want to do it. I know we're going to talk about other possible directors, for me to produce, and having written it, produce it for somebody else.


What's the tone going to be like?
It's going to be scary. Hopefully it will be fun scary, rather than funny scary. It's going to be fun but the idea is to make it scary like when you go through the ride as the kid – part of you is charmed and part of you wants to get out of there.

Das Projekt tritt nach wie vor auf der Stelle. Laut Guillermo del Toro möchten er und Disney den Film zwar unbedingt machen, aber sie suchen noch nach einem Autor, der das Drehbuch von del Toro und Matthew Robbins überarbeitet. Und er möchte nicht irgend jemanden, sondern einen Autor, der wirklich etwas dazu beitragen kann, aber so einer sei schwer zu finden. Er bestätigte nun außerdem nochmal, dass er nur produzieren wird.

We've done it a few times. We are on our third or fourth draft, with 2 different writing teams, and I think the main thing is to try to combine everything that is great about the ride into the movie, and to make it a really intense but with a sense of fun - just like the ride."...
"It is a movie I would love to direct," ... "but I would be happy to just produce it if the timing is not right."

"We have developed 50-60 pieces of art," ... "We've developed maquettes of the Hat Box Ghost, over the body and face of Doug Jones, but we have not succeeded yet in cracking the screenplay. I have to believe that Disney will make this movie as soon as we crack the screenplay, but until then we cannot tackle it... We always feel like we are very close, but not yet."

Man sei im dritten und vierten Entwurf des Drehbuchs, jeweils von einem Team, und wolle alles Notwendige in den Film packen. Er würde es lieben den Film zu drehen, aber wäre auch zufrieden damit, bloß zu produzieren.

Del Toro macht mich noch fertig. Da hat man sich damit abgefunden, dass der Film wohl nicht mehr kommt und er spannt einen aufs neue auf die Folter.
