I fucking LOVE that book. Such a smart take on the zombie movie. I am so psyched to do it. I think you can really do almost a cross between the Dawn of the Dead remake with a 'Roland Emmerich' approach (for lack of a better reference) where you show it happening all over the world. When the pulse hits, I wanna see it hit EVERYWHERE. In restaurants, in movie theaters, at sports events, all the places that people drive you crazy when they're talking on their cell phones. I see total armageddon. People going crazy killing each other - everyone at once - all over the world. Cars smashing into each other, people getting stabbed, throats getting ripped out. The one thing I always wanted to see in zombie movies is the actual moment the plague hits, and not just in one spot, but everywhere. You usually get flashes of it happening around the world on news broadcasts, but you never actually get to experience it happening everywhere. Then as the phone crazies start to change and mutate, the story gets pared down to a story about human survival in the post-apocalyptic world ruled by phone crazies. I'm so excited, I wish the script was ready right now so I could start production.

Eli: Cell, the writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski are writing it. They wrote 1408, Ed Wood, and The People vs. Larry Flint. And now that Im getting closer to locking picture on Hostel 2, Ive been meeting with them more regularly. Theyre working on the draft.
Question: Im from Massachusetts too, and they go to my home town so keep that in there.
Eli: Its interesting because looking at my favorite scene, um, the first question was can I deviate from the book or am I going to piss off Stephen King? Like he was mad at Stanley Kubrick, I dont want him mad at me. Apparently Stephen King was like Do whatever you want. My feeling is Ill always do whats best for the film. There are certain elements that make the book great but I think first and foremost, you owe it to the movie. Im looking at Stephen King adaptations like Carrie and Creepshow Creepshow is dead on and The Shining deviates, and its still a great film. The keyword is its an adaptation of the book not a replication of the book.
Question: It has a great opening scene, which sort of defines the book. Are you going to preserve that?
Eli: I love it. Yeah. I love the opening but I also want to keep that not necessarily that insane chaotic tone, but I want to keep the tension of the opening 40 pages of the book and I want to introduce other elements because I think that book, for me where it loses tension, is where suddenly you dont feel like the phone crazies are trying to kill them. You feel like they¦ and I find that there should be other ways that you still feel the tension that any second they could get killed.
Question: Is it going to be set in Boston?
Eli: Yes, Boston, Definitely.
Question: Are you going to let Stephen King cameo in Cell?
Eli: If hed like to, sure. There is always room. Thats the good thing about Cell, because its like crazy people running around trying everyone who wants to get killed, youll all die in Cell. Everyone who wants to be killed in Cell, theres room and there is plenty of blood for everybody.
Question: Will you shoot in Boston?
Eli: Id love to shoot in Boston, well see.
Question: Is it your next project?
Eli: Definitely the next project is sleep. Id love to tackle that next, but were going to have to wait to see when the script comes in. And then if there is action¦ There are just a number of factors. Id like to make it my next project, yeah. Id love to.

Selbst hier haut sich der gute Roth wieder ein paar Kracher raus:
Wenn das alles ist, was Roth aus Kings Buch favorisiert...Terror und Blut...
Kings Bücher und Charakrtere lebten schon immer durch die sehr genauen Beschreibungen der Personen und deren Umfeld. Habe jetzt "Cell/Puls" noch nicht gelesen, bin mir aber sicher, das es sich auch hier nicht anders verhält. Wenn Roth dann nur mit seiner Blutgier kommt, wird das mit Kings Buch nicht mehr viel gemein haben.
Die meisten Verfilmungen tun sich bei diesem Fakt schwer. Eine Verfilmung der halbwegs jüngeren Generation die mir sehr gut gefallen hat, war daher "Needful Things".
Man sollte ja erst einmal abwarten, was Roth da zaubert, aber die ersten Eindrücke gefallen mir persönlich erst einmal gar nicht. :flop:

Du solltest Puls mal lesen. Viele halten es für Kings blutigstes und brutalstes Werk und für einen Schritt zurück zu seinen Anfängen.

Fand das Buch nicht gut. Im Gegensatz zu anderen King-Büchern hat er es bei Pulse leider versäumt den Hauptcharakteren einen Hintergrund zu geben. Es ist einem fast egal wer als nächstes drauf geht.
Eines der schwächeren Werke des Großmeisters. Würd mir nich wehtun, wenn es nich verfilmt wird.
Und die Idee mit den umherschwebenden Zombies :jabba: Bitte...
Außerdem war das Ende an dem Clay seinen Sohn findet doch sehr konstruiert...

Nö, aber im Buch werden sie so genannt. Wenn ihc mihc richitg erinnere.
Ich hab das Buch nach ca der Hälfte abgebrochen, weil mir diese "Wendung" überthaupt nicht gefallen hat. Hier wäre ihc froh, wenn man es einfach weglassen würde. Die ersten 100-150 Seiten waren die besten.

Ich weiß gar nicht was ihr habt, king hat hier mal eine unterhaltungszeremonie geschaffen und er machte auch nie anstalten, es ernst zumachen. schon was von unterhaltungsliteratur gehört?
