Das Gareth Evans Asia-Action "The Raid" ein Remake ohne Beteiligung des Regisseurs bei Screen Gems bekommt, ist ja seit geraumer Zeit bekannt. Neben dem US "The Raid - Remake" wird es aber auch eine bzw. gleich mehrere Fortsetzungen geben, an welchen sich gerade Sony schon mal vorsorglich die Rechte gesichert hat. Aktuell wurde auch offiziell das Sequel zu "The Raid" von Regisseur Gareth Evans angekündigt.Teil 2 trägt derzeit den Arbeitstitel "Berandal". Ist inhaltsgleich mit dem oben angekündigtem, weshalb ich es hier angehängt habe. Den Trailer hatte man seinerzeit unabhängig und zwecks auftreiben von Geldern realisiert.

Der Drehstart soll später in 2012 in Jakarta sein, und Iko Uwais ist wieder an Bord. Der Film soll direkt am Original ansetzten. Laut Regisseur Gareth Evans ist es eine direkte Fortsetzung, und gleichzeitig der Mittelteil einer Trilogie. Er habe "Berandal" damals zurückgestellt, da ihm die Hintergrundgeschichte der Hauptfigur nicht ausgereift genug war. Weshalb die Story nun als Fortsetzung von "The Raid" umkonzipiert wurde, wodurch sie laut Aussage des Regisseurs viel besser funktioniere. Das Budget sei diesmal deutlich größer als bei Original. Wie hoch ist aber noch nicht bekannt, ebenso um was es denn in der Fortsetzung geht.

Neuer Titel ist nun The Raid: Retaliation und gedreht wird ab Januar. 2 wird sich auch nicht auf ein einziges Gebäude beschränken, die Story von Cop Rama weitererzählen, es wird Autoverfolgungsjagden geben und - einen dritten Teil danach.

"It's very, very different from the first movie - the scale of it is much, much bigger. It's a lot more complex in terms of storyline and character this time. I felt like I couldn't get away with something as simplistic as we did in the first one, [which] was all in one building. We go out onto the streets with this one."

"We have a good cop who is mentioned [at the end of the first film], and we have the big bad guy, the boss of the corrupt cops. They become characters in the sequel, and they're much more expanded upon... They play a part in Rama's life now, so it's a continuation and it's gonna be big."

Damit würde ich nicht rechnen. Gareth Evans hierzu: “We’re still shooting it right now. We’re about a month and a half away from finishing the production of it. It’s got the same kind of action beats in terms of the style of the action, but our approach this time is to go way more cinematic with it. We’re expanding the universe out. We’re taking the story out of that little claustrophobic setting and putting it out into the streets and into the high end gangsters in Jakarta. It’s a lot bigger in scope. So fingers crossed people will kind of come along for the ride again.”

“We should be finished with post by the end of this year and then maybe early next year we can have the release.”
