Wow, there is a LOT of misinformation in this thread. OP, here are the facts and the
only facts as far as I am aware:
- The authors, showrunners, actors and Alcon ALL are on the record saying that they want to finish the series, but it looks like that isn’t happening on Amazon, so they are also on the record stating that:
- Continuation can’t happen until the streaming rights of Amazon expire, which takes several years.
- This is all very strange, considering that the authors and actors are also on the record saying that we should not petition for a continuation again with a second “Save the Expanse” campaign. That’s a contradictory statement unless they know more than they are allowed to say. Specifically, when Ty said this it was in the context that he didn’t want us to piss off Amazon, who he was very grateful to. This made us think that a movie or something was already in the planning stages, at the time. But it’s been radio silence since.
- Alcon remains devoted to the IP in the meantime, and seems to be going down the path of video games. That’s still a good thing.
- Multiple actors, but especially Wes, have all hinted in interviews that they know more than they can say and that the fans should be patient.
- They dropped multiple major hints in season 6 that they want to finish the final trilogy.
All of that
might be Hopium, except Alcon retains the rights to the Expanse in visual media and appears committed to making money off it. So that’s an infinitely better situation than: Firefly, Battlestar, Stargate, etc. And when you consider that, those six facts above paint a very clear picture that the chances of getting a followup series or movie in a few years are probably better than the chances that we won’t.
And, worse case scenario - and I mean absolutely worst case scenario - we will get more video games. And I’m fine with that too if they are good. None of this Telltale shit. Rope in someone that can make a true Expanse rpg set in the post season 6 era please.
